MAY LUNCHEON & TOUR
The Houston WERCouncil cordially invites you to attend our luncheon
and tour of the Handy Hardware Wholesale Distribution Center on Thursday, May 16th,
2002. This is a great opportunity to have lunch and network with other Warehouse/Logistics
professionals as well as tour a large, versatile DC with the purpose of learning about
alternative DC operational methods. Please
extend this invitation to your Warehouse/DC managers, supervisors, inventory control
staff, etc. that could benefit by learning from another distribution environment.
THE TOUR
Handy Hardware Wholesale Inc. Distribution
Center is located at 8300 Tewantin Drive, Houston, TX 77061. This is approximately ˝ mile
west of the intersection of Airport Blvd. and Telephone Rd. close to Hobby Airport. The
phone number to the facility is 713-644-3835. David Washburn will be our host for the
tour, which will begin at approximately 1:00pm after our luncheon.
Handy Hardware operates a 560,000 square foot facility with 290
employees. They service 1200 stores from this facility. The facility has 87 dock doors for
shipping and receiving. There are 40,000 picking locations and 28,000 storage locations.
Additionally they utilize about 70 pieces of material handling equipment ranging from
reach trucks, pallet-riders and order pickers to tugs and forklifts.
THE LUNCHEON
We will have lunch at Ninfa’s Mexican
Café at 11:30 am. Ninfa’s is located at 8553 Gulf Freeway. This is ˝ block south of
Monroe on the east side of the freeway. Their phone number is 713-943-3183. We will order
off the group lunch menu. The cost of the lunch and tour is $25.00 per person. This will be collected at the restaurant. To assist us
in making the collection process easier, please have your check made payable to WERC ready
prior to your arrival. If paying cash, please have exact change, as our change is limited.

As with any lunch function we are required to provide an
exact 'Guest Count' 48 hours prior to the event. If you do not cancel your reservation
prior to Tuesday, 5/14/02 and are unable to attend, WERC will request reimbursement for
the lunch expense.
